The Trump administration eliminates Doug Emhoff from the Holocaust Museum of the US Board.

Doug Emhoff, the former second gentleman of the United States, said Tuesday that he had been fired from the Board of Trustees of the United States Holocaust Museum.

Emhoff was fired from the Board for the administration of President Donald Trump, who has the power to appoint and eliminate the members.

“President Trump hopes to appoint new people who will not only continue to honor the memory of those who passed in the Holocaust, but are also followers of the supporters of the state of Israel,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in a statement to ABC News.

According to the museumThe United States Holocaust Memorial Council, which serves as the Museum’s Board of Trustees, has 55 members designated by the President, as well as members of the United States Senate, the House of Representatives and the Departments of Education, Interior and State.

Emhoff was designated in January to the Council by then President Joe Biden.

“Let me be clear: the memory and education of the Holocaust should never be politicized,” Emhoff said in a statement to ABC News.

“Converting one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge problem is dangerous,” he continued, “and dishonor the memory of six million Jews killed by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve.”

The Board’s Emhoff dismissal is Trump’s last example that eliminates people of what were traditionally non -partisan roles designated by presidents and other officials.

In February, Trump announced that he would eliminate the members of the Board of the John F. Kennedy center for the performing arts, and also settled as president.

The New York Times was the first to report that several members of the Board, including Emhoff, had been fired from the Holocaust Memorial Museum, which the White House confirmed to ABC News.

Emhoff, who is Jewish and has spoken a lot about the Holocaust and anti-Semitism, has previously spoken in support of Israel, and supported Biden’s efforts to negotiate a high-fire agreement and the launch of hostages in the Israel-Hamas War.

In comments to Jewish supporters outside the National Democratic Convention in August 2024, he framed the then vice president Kamala Harris as “someone who knows our community, will continue to support us and Israel, and ensure that only the world is free of hate, including anti -Semitism.”

The Holocaust Memorial Museum gave ABC News a statement on Tuesday, saying: “In this moment of high anti -Semitism and distortion and denial of the Holocaust, the museum is satisfied that our visit is solid and the demand for the education of the Holocaust is increasing.”

“We hope to continue moving our vitally important mission as we work with the Trump administration,” the statement continued.
