6 people injured in stabbing DC ‘meaningless’, suspect of custody: police

Six people were injured after a man who was in an “altered mental state” of an unknown substance began to stab people in a neighborhood in Washington, DC, the neighborhood, police said.

The suspect, who also stabbed in the incident, is in custody, police said.

The incident was reported around 3:22 pm on Thursday in the area of ​​Montello Avenue and Meigs Place Ne, in the neighborhood of Trinidad, said the police.

“The officers arrived at the scene in less than a minute and located numerous people suffering from white weapon wounds,” said the head of DC, Pamela Smith, during a press conference.

Based on the preliminary information, the suspect began to stab himself as he walked down the street before stabbing an acquaintance with him, Smith said.

Then he stabbed others who were outside in the block, as well as two good Samaritans who tried to intervene, said the boss.

Four women and two men were transported to hospitals in the area “as a result of a meaningless assault,” said Smith. They include a grandmother already her two granddaughters, she said.

The victims are in stable condition and it is not believed that their wounds are potentially mortal, said Smith. His ages were not available immediately.

Police located the suspect on the ground in the area, said Smith. A knife that the police think it was used in the assault was recovered a few meters from it, he said.

The suspect, whose name was not discharged, was also transported to the hospital and is in surgery, he said.

“This incident highlights the need for assistance of substance abuse in our communities,” said Smith.

Smith praised the two good Samaritans who tried to help, although he warned against trying to intervene in such incidents.

“Although we are grateful for their intervention, we would ask that people who see incidents like this do not intervene because these two individuals, although good Samaritans, were also stabbed as part of this assault,” said Smith.

The incident remains under investigation.
